INTERN, ASSESSMENT OF PERMITTING PATHWAY BY STATE

Location: Remote (US)

Salary: $2,000/week

We are seeking a Summer Intern to join Graphyte’s Project Development Team. The primary responsibility for the intern is to create a guidebook for the permitting requirements of the states where Graphyte is interested in expanding. This position will play a critical role in enabling decision-making and planning around expansion projects for Graphyte’s innovative Carbon Capture Technology.

This summer internship is ideally suited for a law student who is interested in environmental law and wants to get “hands on” experience in a fast-paced startup environment.  This student will get to work with people actively removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and will have direct exposure to the cutting-edge of permitting issues in the carbon removal space.  This internship will be a lot more interesting than working at a law firm, and it might even influence your future career trajectory.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review permitting requirements applicable to Carbon Casting Storage Facilities in 5-10 states. These likely fall under the Solid Waste Permitting Regulations, but have different requirements for public engagement, local oversight, data collection and sharing, etc.

  • Create framework for comparing those requirements across states including likely time frames and approval thresholds.

  • Provide recommendations as to the ease of permitting in each relevant state.

QUALIFICATIONS â€‹

  • Highly motivated and deeply passionate about addressing climate change.

  • Law student with an interest in environmental policy.

  • Self-starter comfortable operating in ambiguity and in a fast-paced startup environment.

  • Attention to detail and ability to capture and digest large amounts of information.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to present complex information clearly and concisely.

  • Solid organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
