Graphyte is the first-ever biomass carbon removal company to receive an ‘AA’ BeZero rating

Last week, Graphyte’s Loblolly Project was awarded an ‘AA’ carbon rating from BeZero, the market leader for carbon ratings hosted by more than 30 carbon marketplaces and exchanges across the world. The rating represents BeZero’s comprehensive assessment of the project and evaluates “the likelihood of a carbon credit achieving a tonne of CO2e avoided or removed.”
This rating puts Graphyte in the top 2% of the 491 projects on BeZero’s platform. Even more significantly, it makes Carbon Casting the first biomass-based carbon removal and storage (BiCRS) method to be assigned this rating. We are proud of this rating from BeZero and to bring Carbon Casting credits to market through our registry partner Isometric. It is a testament to Graphyte’s delivery of carbon removal credits that meet very high standards for quality including additionality, carbon accounting, and permanence.
BeZero Carbon Ratings Scale

BeZero’s Rating Process
Each BeZero Carbon Rating is awarded based on several risk factors, which are synthesized into three categories:
Additionality: The likelihood that a credit purchased and retired leads to a tonne of CO₂e being avoided or sequestered that would not have otherwise happened.
Carbon Accounting: The likelihood of having carbon accounting consistent with achieving a tonne of CO₂e avoided or removed.
Permanence: The likelihood that the carbon avoided or removed by the project will remain so for the time committed, which in the case of Graphyte is 1000+ years.
How Carbon Ratings Can Support the Growth of Durable CDR
Carbon ratings like BeZero act as quality checks for carbon removal projects, helping buyers and investors identify which ones will deliver on their climate commitments. While BeZero has primarily focused on nature-based projects to date, they're now expanding their ratings to include more durable carbon removal technologies such as direct air capture and biomass carbon removal and storage. As these rating systems grow to cover more durable CDR projects, developers are motivated to design higher quality projects that will earn higher ratings and access more demand. This will ultimately direct more funding toward scientifically sound approaches with genuine climate impact. Graphyte is excited to work with the BeZero team on this project and others as we scale up our CDR approach.
